Basic Vanilla Buttercream

This recipe is enough to frost an 8-inch layer cake. Scale to fit your project needs!

Ingredients
  • 6 sticks Unsalted Butter, room temperature
  • 9 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Food coloring (optional)
Directions
  • Step 1 Beat butter until fluffy
  • Step 2 Add powdered sugar a little at a time until combined
  • Step 3 Add vanilla extract and raise speed to medium-high
  • Step 4 Beat until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes
  • Step 5 Add any desired food coloring, and beat until evenly incorporated
